The big switch…

January 10th, 2013 · No Comments

So i’m changing my local. No, my local pub (because I don’t have one) but my local supermarket.

Im actually changing to a different shopping centre entirely.

Ive done this for a few reasons:

  1. I decided to put my money where my mouth is, if I was encouraging other people to to think about choice when buying food, well i needed to do it too.
  2. The new shopping centre also has a butcher, a baker, a bottle shop and a takeaway located in it so I have a different range of things I can buy.
  3. I want to support a Canberran Supermarket, Supabarn

So there are a few reasons im changing supermarkets.

I have been asked why I even shop at a supermarket at all, the simple reason is that there are plenty of items that I cant get from a farmers market or anywhere else.

Will I promise ever to ever shop or even step in to a duopoly supermarket again?? No, its totally unrealistic for me to say this as there may be a time where there is no alternative.

Im still going to go to the Farmers Market when I get a chance too but its nearly impossible during Rugby Season so when I cant make it here I will shop at Supabarn for my Fruit & Vegtables too.

Ive decided to do most of my shopping at Supabarn on Thursdays as there are discounts that apply (up to 10%) which is great if I  do a fortnightly shop and spend a few hundred dollars at a time.

I haven’t closely looked at the quality of the meat that Supabarn sell but there is a butcher in the complex so im not too worried  about my biggest spend in the fortnightly shop going to waste on poor quality. Ive already got my keying rewards card so im  ready to start earning!

But for the main shopping I will be doing will be at Supabarn. Ive changed my shopping habits, have you?As I said before I may  still shop at other supermarkets, Aldi comes to mind for the quality of the cleaning products and im also a member of CostCo,  which has good quality and prices. I advise anyone throwing a party to become a member as it will pay for itself in the first shop  though you need to be prepared to buy in bulk (Anyone for 50 rolls of paper towel or a 6L bottle of Vodka?)

Ive started to change my shopping habits, are you doing something similar?
